What are PCB Thickness Options?

Bittele Electronics employs friendly and intelligent staff of PCB Customer Service Experts to serve our customers worldwide, and to help with questions about the latest and most cutting-edge technology. Many of our clients contact us to ask about our available PCB thickness options when they find that our selection of Standard PCB Stackups is not quite suited to their project. We are happy to say that our PCB Assembly Process is highly customizable, and can be tailored to your specific needs. We can follow any specifications you might require for your printed circuit board, from single or multiple cores to the relative thicknesses of each prepreg layer that separates your current-carrying traces. This high customizability, coupled with our extensive Quality Management procedures are why so many customers trust our Complete PCB Assembly service for their needs in both High Quality PCB Fabrication and High Quality PCB Assembly.

An extensive range of finished PCB thicknesses can be accomplished with the combination of different core thicknesses and sheets of prepreg. We offer standard options for the overall thickness of all laminate layers on your PCB, ranging from 0.008 inches to 0.240 inches. These standard options include 0.2 mm (0.0079 inch), 0.4 mm (0.016 inch), 0.5 mm (0.020 inch), 0.6 mm (0.024 inch), 0.8 mm (0.032 inch), 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), 1.2 mm (0.047 inch), 1.5 mm (0.062 inch), 1.6 mm (0.063 inch), 2.0 mm (0.079 inch), 2.3 mm (0.091 inch), and 3.175 mm (0.125 inch). That being said, we can follow any thickness requirement you might require for your specific PCB project.

In addition to our flexibility in sizing options, we provide a considerable selection of Laminate Materials to ensure that we can deliver a quality product that suits your particular needs. Whether your application requires a High Temperature PCB or Metal Core PCB for high power projects, or a low and consistent dielectric constant for High Frequency and High-Density Interconnect (HDI) applications, our process has you covered.

For PCB projects with less onerous demands, we offer a selection of Standard PCB Options for your convenience, which can be specified for maximum efficiency in terms of both lead time and overall cost; our standard PCB Thickness option is 1.6 mm (0.063 inch).

In certain cases, the circuit board core thickness and Solder Mask coating must be considered for Controlled Impedance or Controlled Dielectric applications. When computing trace impedance, the effects of the solder mask must be taken into account, as well the PCB Conformal Coating where applicable; in general, solder mask decreases the impedance on thin traces. The solder mask has considerably less effect as the trace thickness increases.

The surface finish for your printed circuit board does not contribute significantly to the PCB thickness, and our many surface finish options can be tailored to give the exact final thickness that you require. From common options such as HASL, ENIG, Immersion Tin, and Immersion Silver, to more specialized finished such as OSP, Selective Gold Plating, or Full Body Hard Gold, we can customize the physical nature of the PCB surface finish to suit your thickness requirements. The effect of these options differ only in rate, availability, serviceable life, consistency, and assembly processing. As each finish has its individual advantages, the nature of your individual product will define the appropriate surface finish that is suitable for your application. We recommend that designers constantly coordinate with us for the selection of an ideal PCB surface finish for the required product design. This will ensure you have better prices for the end product delivery.

Our driving ambition is to provide quality service with competitive pricing to our customers worldwide. Our team is always happy to collaborate with you to determine the most effective cost structure to achieve an overall reduction in the project cost. This flexibility and willingness to collaborate allows us to offer superior services compared to other Turnkey PCB Service solutions.
